City Areas
When it comes to decide which areas of Dijon you should choose for your tourist wanderings, the Old Town clearly stands out. In fact, it’s best to dedicate your time almost solely to it, given that there are lots of interesting things to see here – more than enough for even the most demanding city trekkers.
Interest Areas
- Old Town
General info: Some of the architectural elements of Dijon date back from the times of the Gallo-Romans and there were many alternating golden ages and times of crisis that shaped the face of the city. As a matter of fact, Dijon itself is perhaps one of the best museums you’ll find here.
Attractions include: the Dijon Notre-Dame Cathedral, the churches of Saint-Bénigne, Saint-Michel, Saint-Jean, the Porte Guillaume, the Ducal Palace, the Hôtel Chambellan, Musée des Beaux-Arts, the Well of Moses, Jardin Darcy.
- Green Areas
General info: Despite its sometimes overwhelming mantle of stone grayness, Dijon is not a stifling urban cage. There are many gardens and parks, some of them quite old, but they are not really concentrated in a certain area – which is good, as you’ll always be close to one of them during your trips.
Attractions include: Cours du Parc, Jardin de Sainte Anne, Creux d’Enfer, Jardin de l’Arquebuse, Jardin des Carmélites, Parc de la Colombière, Lac Kir, Parc des Argentières, Parc du Château de Pouilly, Square Carrelet de Loisy.
- Shopping Areas
General info: Dijon is not exactly a city famous for its luxury shops and there are no shopping paradises where tourists should do just that and almost nothing else. Still, if you really want to check out the Dijon boutiques and markets, focus on these streets: rue de la Liberté, rue Bossuet, rue du Bourg and rue Verrerie.
- Entertainment Areas
General info: Despite its museum-like appearance, people in Dijon know how to have a good time, so you’ll find nice places to hang out or relax after a day of sightseeing, and also some beautiful theatres and cinemas. Check out the following locations: place Zola, place Darcy, place du Théâtre, rue des Godrans, rue Longepierre, rue Danton and many others.
Attractions include: Grand Théâtre de Dijon, Théâtre National Dijon-Bourgogne.
