About Dijon
Dijon is located in the east of France, and holds the administrative title of Côte-d’Or’s capital. More important for you, in tourist terms, Dijon is the historical capital of the ancient province of Burgundy and it’s quite a quaint little town, with a population of about 150 000 people in its metropolitan area.
If the name “Dijon” was already familiar to you, then that’s probably because you’ve eaten some – the Dijon mustard, of course. Incidentally, the gastronomy of the city is more than a bit famous. And for good reason, too, Dijon being a sort of focal point for all the culinary traditions of the Côte d’Or region. In addition, all your meals here will be accompanied by excellent wines. Between these gourmand episodes, you’re free to enjoy the unique artistic and architectural works spread throughout the city.
Don’t trust your first glance of Dijon, as you get off the train at its main rail station. The city may be painted in modern tones, but underneath lies a charming and romantic medieval heart. Go deeper into the city and you’ll soon walk on old streets and by old buildings, most of them restored with care to preserve the original style. In short, your visit to Dijon will be anything but dull.
